Janice Lynn Eckhardt, age 68 of Holton, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the Mercy General Health Partners Mercy Campus in Muskegon. Janice was born on May 12, 1942 in Fremont to Edwin E. and Eloise A. (Aslakson) Gibson and graduated as valedictorian from Holton High School in 1960. Janice later graduated valedictorian from Muskegon School of Business (Baker College) as an executive secretary degree. Janice started work as an executive secretary at Lakeshore Machinery, then became secretary to the superintendent at Holton Public Schools as well as secretary at the Holton High School and Middle School and Elementary School. Janice later started work as a transcriptionist for the circuit courts for the Holcomb Company until her retirement. Janice married Samuel Eckhardt on June 20, 1964 at the Holton Evangelical Lutheran Church and has been a livelong resident of the Holton area where she had lived on the family farm. Janice was an active member of the Holton Evangelical Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir. Janice also enjoyed gardening but especially enjoyed being a homemaker and spending time with her husband, her 3 children and 4 grandchildren. Janice is survived by her husband of 46 years, Sam; her children, Kristin (Tom) Geisler of Holton; Brian (Jeanna) Eckhardt of Ravenna; Brent (Cassie) Eckhardt of Twin Lake; grandchildren, Courtney & Katey Geisler; Jesse & Summer Eckhardt. She was preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Eloise and her brother Ted Gibson.
