Obituary

Jewel LaVerne (Zeckzer) Stitt, went to be with her Heavenly Father, Saturday, April 27, 2013. Jewel was born on May 25, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois to Otto Henry and Laurencia Josephine (Algaard) Zeckzer. The family moved to Muskegon and later to Holton and Jewel lived most of her life in Michigan. On May 25, 1938, Jewel married Samuel J. Stitt II in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on November 23, 2006. Jewel loved the Lord and served Him faithfully. Jewel was one of the charter members of the Fremont Wesleyan Church. Through the years, she served as a pastors wife to Sam in various church including Argonne, Wisconsin; Graham North Carolina; and Hesperia, Michigan. She served her family as a faithful Mother, Grandmother and prayer warrior and will be greatly missed in these roles. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff of the Newaygo Medical Care Facility for the endearing and wonderful care of our Mother. Jewel is survived by her 10 children and their families, Pat (Olivia) Stitt of Fremont; Ron (Pauline) Stitt of Holton; Terry (Shirley) Stitt of Three Rivers, Michigan; Bert (Linda) Stitt of Madison, Wisconsin; Karon (Jim) Schwartz of Centreville, Michigan; Nancy Miller of Pedal, Mississippi; Samuel James (Peggy) Stitt III of Hesperia; Leah (Robert) Antoniewicz of Deerbrook, Wisconsin; Michael (Chris) Stitt of Willow, Alaska; Ether (George) Davis of Fremont; 31 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; nephew, Larry (Terri) Zeckzer; niece, Dawn Gardenour both of Holton. Jewell was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Lawrence Zeckzer and her son-in-law, Ervin Miller. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from 4-7pm at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 11am at the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. Interment will be in the East Hesperia Cemetery. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in memory of Jewel.
