Jo Ann C. Dekleva, age 93 of Fremont, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont following a long decline in her health. Jo Ann was born on August 10, 1930 in Saginaw, Michigan to Gottfried and Bertha (Currott) Mehl and later married John Frank Dekleva on April 16, 1955 in Saginaw. John preceded her in death on July 27, 2000. Jo Ann grew up in Saginaw and after marriage, she and John moved to Illinois and soon moved to the Fremont area in 1962 from Northbrook, Illinois. Jo Ann started work at the Fremont Public School – Daisy Brook School as the Librarian where she worked until her retirement in 1990. Jo Ann was a constant reader of books, had been a volunteer at the Fremont Public Library and also at Gerber Memorial Hospital for many years, enjoyed snow skiing and golfing throughout the summer months, was a dog lover but especially treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren. Jo Ann is survived by her children and grandchildren, Patrick (Robin) Dekleva of Fremont and their daughter, Jennifer ; Jody (Dan) Cain of Hudsonville and their children, Kaitlyn and Connor Cain; Mark Richard Dekleva (deceased September 19, 2013) and his children, Tyler and Garrison Dekleva; her brother, Richard Mehl of Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Mehl. Graveside services will be held in 2024 at the Maple Grove Cemetery where Jo Ann will be laid to rest with her husband.
