Joan E. Anderson, age 85 of Fremont, passed away Monday, April 18, 2016 at her home. Joan was born on May 20, 1930 in Marquette, Michigan to Toivo and Mabel (Swanson) Aho and later married Charles H. Anderson on August 9, 1952 in Marquette. Charles preceded her in death on March 16, 2015. Joan graduated from Michigan State University and moved back to Marquette after graduation. Joan moved to the Fremont area in 1964 from Marquette and soon began a teaching career with the Fremont Public Schools. Joan started substitute teaching and later taught full time at the Pine Street School where she taught 2nd and 3rd grade for 24 years until her retirement in 1992. Joan was a member of the First Congregational Church where she had been active in the Joy Circle of the church for many years. Joan was an avid Michigan State Fan, enjoyed listening to Tiger Baseball, sewing, reading, crossword puzzles, bingo and gaming. Joan truly enjoyed being a grandmother to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joan is survived by her children, Garth Anderson of Fremont; Kevin Anderson of St. Joseph; Wendy (Rick) St. Peter of Fremont; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Elaine Rutter and her brother, Gordon Aho. INTERMENT : Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Fremont Public Library for Audio Books or Fremont Public Schools to purchase book for the elementary school library.
