Joan B. McDonald, age 88, of Fremont passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2018, surrounded by her family. Joan was born on March 31, 1930, and married Frederick Henry "Ted" McDonald on June 2, 1952, in Grand Rapids. Joan was an elementary school teacher in Royal Oak, Michigan for many years. She enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, Ted and Dave and Betty DeVries. She was happiest sharing time with family and friends. Joan often said that the greatest thing that ever happened to her was her four children. Joan cherished her days living on Crystal Lake and attended the Church of the Living Christ in Fremont.
Joan is survived by her children, Curtis McDonald of Boulder, CO., Christine (David) Hackem of West Boomfield, MI., Cathleen (Ronald) Sompels of Oldsmar, FL., and Craig (Lisa) McDonald of San Mateo, CA.; grandchildren, Andrew (Nissa) Sompels, Eric (Katie) Hackem, Steven Sompels, Kelsey Hackem, Kevin Sompels, Claire McDonald, and Charlotte McDonald; great-grandchildren, Sadie Sompels and Harper Hackem; and brother, David (Betty) DeVries of Grandville. She was preceded in death by 5 siblings and her husband, Ted in 2014.
VISITATION: Saturday, April 21, 2018, from 11 – 12 PM at the Crandell Funeral Home in Fremont. CELEBRATION OF LIFE: Saturday at noon following visitation. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS: Susan G.
