Joan C. Romanowski, age 80 of Fremont, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at the Orchard Pointe Assisted Living Center in Kendallville, Indiana. Joan was born on June 24, 1939 in Waterbury, Connecticut to Raymond Francis and Ester Davida (Anderson) Harrigan. Joan graduated with her Bachelor's Degree from Southern Connecticut University and later received her Master Degree in Teaching. She met the love of her life, Stanley J. Romanowski and they were married on May 3, 1963 in Beacon Falls, Connecticut. Stan preceded her in death on September 24, 2018. Joan and Stan were the typical military family and traveled throughout the country where Joan would find teaching positions in elementary education wherever they were stationed during their time in the military and their younger working years. Joan settled in East Grand Rapids where she later retired from Ada Elementary School and concluded her career as an educator. Joan moved to the Martin Lake area in Fremont in 2004 from East Grand Rapids and was a member of the St. Michael Catholic Church in Brunswick. Joan had been active in the ladies auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, enjoyed sewing, reading, was an active volunteer in many activities and organizations and had traveled on various church mission trips. She was an advocate for and was dedicated to child literacy. Joan was actively engaged in the community to improve humanity and the greater good of its people. Joan is survived by her children and grandchildren, Kathleen (Darryl) Matthews of Grand Rapids and children, Michael, Alex, Kaitlin; Steven (Marsha) Romanowski of Albion, Indiana and children, Seth, Spencer, Sidney; Stanley "Jay" (Janet) Romanowski Jr. of Grand Rapids and children, Carly and Alaina. Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Stanley; her brothers, Raymond Harrigan and Carl Harrigan.
