Joan Arlene Curtice, a cherished member of the Fremont community, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 1st, 2025 at the age of 86. Born on January 11th, 1939 in Fremont, Michigan, Joan remained a lifelong resident of her hometown.
Joan was the beloved wife of Don Curtice for 68 years. Together, they created a warm and loving family environment, raising four children: Valerie Adams and her husband Matthew of Fremont, Lori Johnson of Fremont, Kathy Reynolds and her husband Kirk of Louisiana, and Kurt Curtice and his wife Lisa of Holton, Michigan. Joan's family further expanded with her 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy and pride to her life.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Melborne and Hilda Schotanus, sister, Sandra Neibarger, son in law, L.A. Larry Alan Johnson, and her grandson, Chase Curtice. Joan is survived by her brother, Gene Schotanus.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Joan's family was the heart of her world. As an office manager at the dental office of Dr. Pschak and Dr. Taggart & Dr. Niquette, Joan was known for her dedication and care, leaving a mark on both her colleagues and the many patients who came through the office.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Joan's life at a funeral service on Monday, September 8th, 2025, at Crandell Funeral Homes Inc, Fremont, MI. Visitation is scheduled from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by the service officiated by Ron Workman at 2:00 pm. A graveside service will take place at Fremont Maple Grove Cemetery at 3:15 pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to Crandell Funeral Home - Fremont.
In honor of her memory, the family requests that donations be made to the Newaygo County Compassion Home, reflecting Joan's compassionate spirit and enduring commitment to helping others.
Her legacy of love, resilience, and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Joan Arlene Curtice will be dearly missed yet fondly remembered, as she transforms from our presence and into our memories, carrying with her the spirit of her beloved Fremont.
