JoAnn Hanes, age 61 of White Cloud, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014 at her home following a long illness. JoAnn was born on December 14, 1952 in Muskegon to Ole and Ila (Chase) Knutson and later married Merlyn Hanes on July 11, 1974 in Gainesville, Florida. JoAnn moved to the White Cloud area in 1994 from Newaygo where she had been a resident for over 30 years. JoAnn had been a cook at Georges Root beer Stand in Newaygo for 15 years prior to her retirement and enjoyed Bingo, gaming, cooking and being a mom. JoAnn is survived by her husband, Merlyn of White Cloud; her children, Gary (Leighann) Hanes; Sandy (Chad) Billings; Tina Jo Brainard; Beverly (Jerry) Grice; Kitty Jo (Norman) Shields; Merlyn (Leeann) Hanes Jr.; 13 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; her sister, Norma Jean Perkins; her brother, David Knutson. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ila Mason and her step father, Herb Mason. A memorial luncheon will be held to celebrate and remember JoAnn in White Cloud.
