Joanna Joyce Schultz, age 85 of Fremont, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2022 at the Spectrum Health Blodgett Campus in Grand Rapids surrounded by her family. Joanna was born on March 2, 1937 in Lake City, Michigan to Elzy and Elizabeth (Fraser) Starlin. Joanna later graduated from Emmanuel Missionary College in Berrien Springs, Michigan with a double major in Education and Home Economics. She moved to Fremont in 1962 and began teaching at the Fremont Seventh Day Adventist School. Joanna met Harry H. Schultz in high school, and they were married on June 30, 1963 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Fremont. Harry preceded her in death on October 9, 2018. Joanna was instrumental in the operation of the Fremont Seventh Day Adventist Church where she served as treasurer for over 50 years, was a leader for all children's programs for many years and had served as a deaconess in the church. Joanna enjoyed gardening, embroidery, jigsaw and word search puzzles, reading, and bird watching. Joanna is survived by her children and grandchildren, Rodney (Barbara) Schultz of Muskegon; Bryce (Jaimi) Schultz of Stanton and their children, Caleb, Alyssa, Grayson Schultz and Lydia Sowles; Erika Walker of Harrison, Tennessee and her children, Chase (Allison) Walker and Hayden Walker; her sisters-in-laws, Charlene Starlin, Linda Starlin, Sandra Starlin, Erna (Glen) Bliss; half brothers and sister, John Starlin; Ruth (Charles) Carpenter; Terry (Sharon) Starlin; many nieces and nephews. Joanna was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; her siblings, David, Jim, Livina, Esther, Lester, Larry and Gary Starlin.
