John E. Battjes, age 77 of Fremont and formerly of Bailey and Grand Rapids, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Regency at Fremont, formerly Transitional Health Services. John was born on January 7, 1943 in Jenison to Everett and Johanna (VanBeek) Battjes. John moved to the Fremont area in 2005 from Bailey and had spent most of the rest of his life in Grand Rapids. John had worked at Dura Plating in Grand Rapids for many years and later several other jobs in Grand Rapids until his retirement. He enjoyed bowling, old muscle cars, fishing and attending fish fry's. John is survived by his sons, Scott (Dawn) Battjes of Cedar Springs; Dennis (Jenny) Battjes of Holton; Terry (Mary) Battjes of Climax; Brian (April) Battjes of Newaygo; his grandchildren, Desiree (Kenny Schultz) Battjes, Sebastian (Wendy) Battjes, Brandon (Michelle) Battjes, Zane Battjes, Mason Battjes, Michael Battjes, and Taylor Battjes; a step grandson, Kenneth Sloan; his great grandchildren, Finnley and Lillianna; his sisters, Joyce (Dale) Burns of Hart; Judy DeBoer of Jenison; Karel White of Ionia; his brother, Jerry (Linda) Battjes of Elk Creek, Virginia; several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his grandson, Dennis "Denny" John Battjes Jr. and by his parents, Everett and Johanna Battjes. MEMORIAL SERVICES : Friday, December 11, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. at the Croton Trinity Bible Church 8198 S. Croton Hardy Drive Newaygo MI 49337 with Pastor Curt Chaffee presiding. The services are open to the public and masks are required as well as social distancing will be required.
