John "Jack" G. Beattie, age 74 of Holton, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2001 at the Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. He was born on May 3, 1927 in Muskegon to John M. and Dorothy (Wilke) Beattie and later married Ida M. Pider on December 31, 1973 in Hart, Michigan. John retired from the Teledyne Continental Motors Company in Muskegon as a machinist where he had worked for many years. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Holton American Legion Cobb Trygstad Anderson Post #397, member of Farm Bureau and member of UAW Local 113. He had also been a dairy farmer all his life in the Holton Area where he spent many hours working on his favorite tractor. He enjoyed talking with his many friends, auction sales and real mashed potatoes. He is survived by his wife, Ida of Holton; his children, Don Beattie of Holton; Gerald (Diane) Beattie of Holton; Debbie (Randy) Dahlquist of Muskegon; grandchildren, Justin, Jeremy, Connor, Benjamin; step children, Roxanna (Carey) Hill of Hart; Angela Jean Boylan of Hesperia; step grandchildren; Tony, Dustin, Patrick, Nicole; great grandchildren, Tyler, Drew, Meghan, Brittany, Latasha; his brothers, Donald (Ann) Beattie of St. Petersburg, Florida; Carl Beattie of Holton; Raymond Beattie of Hesperia; his sister, Shirley Lidke of Holton; special nephew, Scott Lidke of Sarasota, Florida; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy; his grandson, Eric Dahlquist; daughter-in-law, Pamela Beattie. Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 24, 2001 at 11:30am from the Holton United Methodist Church in Holton with Rev. Ken Bremer presiding with interment in the West Hesperia Cemetery.
