John S. Belfast, age 85 of Fremont, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2012 at his home. John was born on June 18, 1927 in Muskegon to Stanley and Toefilia (Kolesa) Belfast and later married Joanne M. Theis on September 29, 1957. John moved to the Fremont area in 1963 from Muskegon and was a member of the St. Michaels Catholic Church in Brunswick. John joined the United States Marine Corps immediately after graduation and later worked as part of the Merchant Marine Force for the Grand Trunk Railroad on the car ferry from 1947 until 1966. John then started work as a mechanic at Canon Wyant Campbell in Muskegon and retired in 1985. John enjoyed farming, cutting wood and riding his tractor on the farm. John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joanne; his children, Damian Belfast of Louisville, Kentucky; Mary Belfast (Joe Ritter) of Barto, Pennsylvania; Teresa (James) Madden of Ridgeland, Mississippi; Aaron (Wendy) Belfast of Ilion, New York; Luke Belfast of Atlanta, Georgia; 7 grandchildren, Jonathon, Michael, Adam, Chris, James, Lauren, and Elizabeth; several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his 4 sisters, 2 step sisters and 1 step brother. VISITATION : Thursday, August 30, 2012 from 1-2 pm at the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. MEMORIAL SERVICES : Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 2pm at the Crandell Funeral Home. INTERMENT : St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Muskegon. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Fremont Fire Department First Responders.
