John D. Brewster, age 85, of Fremont, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at his home on Stone Rd. John was born on December 1, 1929 in Detroit to John E. and Edith M. (Leeper) Brewster and has been a resident of the area for over 50 years. John married his sweetheart Ann E. Ricks on May 25, 1951 in East Lansing with whom he enjoyed 62 years of companionship. She preceded him in death on July 1, 2013. John served in the Michigan National Guard during the Korean Conflict, while attending Michigan State University. He later received his teaching degree from Western Michigan University. He was a dedicated and passionate teacher in the White Cloud Public Schools for 23 years. After retirement, John worked at various area golf courses as a course ranger. John was a talented artist and writer. Woodworking and poetry were his mediums of choice. He will be remembered for his love of the natural world, his great appreciation for music and art of all kinds, his captivating storytelling, and his beautiful singing voice. As a memorial to his and his wife Ann's great love of the arts and dedication to providing their access to young people, John organized The Brewster Mosaic Project, an art education program and community art project. The resulting installation, a mosaic depicting the history of White Cloud, can be seen prominently displayed on the front entrance wall of White Cloud Elementary School. John was passionate about genealogy and left behind a well-researched family history. He cherished and appreciated all of his time with his large family. He is survived by his children: Mary Kay DelMariani (Marc), Laurie Orban, Thomas Brewster (Janet), Kathe Scott, and Cynthia Pyle; grandchildren: Ann, Cari, Katie, Nikki, Allie, Ellie, Jake, Sophie, and Lena; eight great-grandchildren and two on the way. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Brewster and sisters, Virginia Lee Brewster, and Betty Kay Brewster Koch. Please join John's family as they celebrate his life on July 11, from 2:00-5:00 at The Stone Lodge 4465 W. 48th Street, Fremont, MI 49412.
