Obituary

John F. Collar, age 87 of White Cloud, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. John was born on September 28, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois and later married M. Peggy Goble on January 5, 1945 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. John was retired from the United States Treasury Department where he had been an Inspector for 20 years until his retirement as Branch Chief in 1981. John also served in the Secret Service protecting several presidential candidates during their campaigns. John served in the United States Army, 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper and also as an NCO Intelligence Officer during World War II. John moved to the White Cloud area from Cincinnati in 1982 and enjoyed fishing and hunting, and playing pinochle. John was instrumental in stocking Robinson Lake with walleye and worked with longtime friend Bob Harvey and the DNR to raise frey and plant fish in various lakes in Newaygo County. John was a member of the F.O.P and had also served as the Sherman Township Zoning Administrator for several years. John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Peggy of White Cloud; his children, Claudia A. (John) Mooter of Cincinnati, Ohio; John A. Collar of White Cloud; Christi J. (Harry) Hensley of Barnardsville, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Cara B. and Emory Hensley and David Mooter; daughter-in-law, Ellen Collar of Evanston, Illinois; his brother, George (Sabrah) Collar of Homewood, Illinois; sister-in-law, Linda Collar of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Aaron D. Collar and by his brother, Robert Collar. VISITATION : Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 12:30 pm until the time of the MEMORIAL SERVICES at 2pm at the Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel. Interment will take place in White Cloud Cemetery. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Salvation Army in memory of John.
