Obituary

Dr. John Daryl Kingsnorth, age 59 of Fremont, joined his Lord and Savior on February 2, 2012 following a long and courageous battle with cancer. John was born on September 24, 1952 in Albion, Michigan, the only son of Daryl and Gladys (Jones) Kingsnorth. He attended Central High where he lettered in basketball. He received a basketball scholarship from Central Michigan University where he earned a Bachelor Degree in Secondary Education. After college, John began his career as a high school math teacher, coach, and principal. He went on to obtain his Masters Degree from Western Michigan University and his PhD from Michigan State University. John served as Superintendent of Deerfield, Otsego, Romeo and Fremont Schools. John retired in 2009 but continued his love of teaching as an adjunct professor at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids. He served 35 years in education; 26 as a superintendent. John was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fremont, Fremont Chamber of Commerce, Sigma Chi Fraternity, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Big Brothers. John touched many lives by his kindness, generous spirit, and willingness to listen. He made a positive difference in so many lives. He was a devout Christian and wanted nothing more than to help others accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. His love of God sustained him through his fight with cancer. John is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Jackie (Elder) Kingsnorth; his mother, Gladys Kingsnorth of Grand Rapids; his daughter, Julie (Andy) Gutknecht of Jenison; his son, John David Kingsnorth and his fiance Brooke Marris of Grand Rapids; his grandchildren, Jace and Brynn Gutknecht; 3 sisters, Ann (Wayne) Winters of San Diego, California; Nancy (Paul) Klunzinger of Mt. Pleasant; Sally (Carl) Chandler of Novi; many nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Jean Elder of Petoskey and brother-in-law Kerry Elder of Gaylord; as well as many cherished and devoted friends.. John was preceded in death by his father, Daryl Kingsnorth. John adored his wife, family, and friends and will be truly missed. VISITATION : Sunday, February 5, 2012 from 2-5pm at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Monday, February 6, 2012 at 4pm at the First Baptist Church in Fremont. INTERMENT : Evergreen Cemetery in Petoskey. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Dr. John Kingsnorth Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Fremont Public School.
