November 15, 1931 – February 21, 2006
John Kosla Sr., age 74 of White Cloud, passed away Tuesday evening at the Select Hospital in Muskegon following a short illness. John was born on November 15, 1931 in White Cloud to Stanley and Frances (Dudeck) Kosla and later met and married Margaret Irene Dutcher on July 10, 1953 in Newaygo. Margaret preceded him in death on August 7, 2003. John has been a lifelong resident of the White Cloud area where he had worked at the Newaygo County Road Commission for 40 years until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Cloud and had been a member of the Grand Rapids Old Time Concertina Club for 25 years where he enjoyed playing polkas and waltzs for everyones enjoyment. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener and enjoyed spending time in the woods. Papa John always enjoyed playing and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his children, John (Liz) Kosla Jr. of White Cloud; Stella Crawford of White Cloud; Stan (Mai) Kosla of California; Gloria (Bill) Labelle of White Cloud; Matthew (Sue) Kosla of Cedar Springs; his son-in-law, James Strait of Brohman; his grandchildren, Daniel (Wendy) Bain; Tonia (Owen) Sweezy; Tricia (Don) Kaiser; Jason (Kerry) Hewitt; Chad Hewitt; Christopher Hewitt; Jonathon Kosla; Melissa Kosla; Christopher Kosla; Brianna Kosla; Eric Kosla; Chandler Kosla; James Labelle; Becca Labelle, Erica (Darren) Meeh; Mandy (John) Brandt; Angela Ditlow; great grandchildren, Parker Sweezey; Kaylyn and Linsie Kaiser; Blake Bain; Morgan and Meghan Meeh; Jonathan Brandt; Evan Barnhard; Coleman Barnhard; Aiyana Haggerty; Joey Minor Jr.; Rylee Hewitt; his brothers and sisters, Joseph (June) Kosla Sr.; Helen Windver; Josie (Mike) Detmers; Rosie Tully; Ed (Penny) Kosla; several nieces and nephews; his lifelong best friend, Art (Marilyn) Gigowski. John was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret on August 7, 2003; by his son, Michael Stanley Kosla; his daughters, Theresa Ann Sutton and Deborah Lynn Strait; his sister, Mary Anna Kosla; his brother, Tony Kosla. Funeral Mass Services were held on Saturday, February 25, 2006 from the St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Cloud with Rev. Father Tony Russo presiding with interment in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
