Obituary

John Maat, age 81 of Fremont, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2002 at the Transitional Health Services in Fremont. John was born on January 30, 1920 in Fremont to Albert and Fannie (Weiden) Maat and married Joyce Carolyn Wheat on January 24, 1948 in Fremont. He has been a lifelong resident of the Fremont area where he has been a farmer all his life and member of Farm Bureau. John was also a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Fremont and a veteran of World War II where he served in the United States Army. He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Fremont; his children, Larry (Jan) Maat of Sterling Heights, Michigan; Randy (Donna) Maat of Fremont; Jeff (Dawn) Burns of Fremont; 4 grandchildren, Jamie, Heather, Shawn, Miranda; his sister, Burnetta Weaver of Fremont; his brother, Elmer (Shirley) Maat of Fremont; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Jean Maat, on November 2, 2001; sister, Gertrude Dykman and brother, Ed Maat. Funerals services were held on Thursday, January 3, 2002 from the First Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Allen Petroelje presiding with interment in Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.
