John H. Maddox, age 56 of Brohman, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2008 at his home following a long illness. John was born on December 17, 1951 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to James George and Doris Doreen (Moomey) Maddox. He later met and married Joyce Beenen on June 26, 1976 in Grand Rapids. John had been a deputy at the Lake County Sheriffs Department for 5 years until a medical condition forced him to retire from the police force. He later became the zoning administrator for Merrill Township until his retirement due to his illness. John enjoyed hunting and fishing, enjoyed being in the Michigan woods and had been mentor and took care of mentally challenged children through the Hope Network in Lake County. John is survived by his wife, Joyce of Brohman; his daughter, Amy Jo Maddox (Wesley Shular) of Woodville; his father, James George Maddox of Jamestown, Michigan; his brothers and sister, Gary (Diane) Maddox of Jamestown, Michigan; Greg Maddox (Cheryl) of Hawkins; Patrick (Deb) Maddox of Howard City; Sheryl Maddox (David) of Bitely; Robert Maddox (Cyndi) of Brohman; many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Doreen. Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 17, 2008 from the Brohman Chapel with Rev. Gordon Elzinga presiding with interment in the Merrill Merrill Township Cemetery. Friends may consider the Michigan Sheriffs Association for memorial contributions in memory of John.
