John Joseph Pelon, age 85 of Fremont, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2001 at his home. He was born on July 5, 1915 in Muskegon to Joseph and Anna (Balkema) Pelon and married Anne M. Carbine on May 14, 1949 in Muskegon. He has been a resident of the Fremont area for the past 9 years where he was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and had been a federal meat inspector for the USDA until his retirement. He had also served on the board of the Muskegon Rescue Mission, served as an elder & deacon for the Reformed Churches of America and loved gardening. He was a veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Anne of Fremont; daughters, Sarah (John) Wolfsen of Fremont; Mary Thomas of Fremont; 4 grandchildren, Jason & Emily Wolfsen; Adam & Beth Thomas all of Fremont; sisters, Helen Walvoord of Holland, MI; Betty J. (Dr. Richard) Stevenson of Oregon; several nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held on Tuesday, June 19, 2001 from the Crandell Funeral Home Chapel in Fremont with Rev. Frank Vietze presiding.
