John W. Brock Sr., age 93 of Hesperia, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the Maple Creek (The Lodge) Nursing Facility in Grand Rapids. John was born on February 26, 1915 in southern Indiana to John A. and Emma Brock. John met and later married Pauline A. Waters, a Fremont native on June 11, 1938 and moved to the Hesperia area from South Bend, Indiana after their marriage. Pauline preceded him in death on October 13, 1981. John worked at the Gerber Products Company in Fremont for over 37 years until his retirement as production coordinator. John truly enjoyed his family and friends, reading, particularly about the Civil War, traveling, woodworking, hunting and gardening. John also served in the United States Army during World War II. John is survived by his sons, Gene W. Brock of Hesperia; Larry A. Brock of Tennessee; his daughter, Charlotte A. DeVries of Grand Rapids; his grandchildren, Major Larry L. (Dusti) Brock of Temecula, California; Raquel A. (Trevor) Parks of Big Rapids; Tara L. (Floyd) Gates of Rockford; Peggy J. (Lance) Beckett of Trufant; and William J. (Beth) DeVries, Jr. of Zeeland, Michigan and his 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline, and by his son, John W. Brock, Jr on June 5, 2005. VISITATION : Thursday 2-4 & 6-8 at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Friday at 1pm at the Crandell Funeral Home. INTERMENT : Maple Grove Cemetery.
