John C. Tonkin, a cherished resident of Muskegon, MI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the age of 89. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on October 8, 1936, John lived a life full of love, adventure, and dedication to his family and passions.

John is survived by his loving wife, Clarissa Tonkin, with whom he shared many wonderful years. He leaves behind his children, Michael (Julie) Tonkin, Robin, and Terry (Mike) and his stepson, Charles (Brenda) Mollett, who will forever cherish his memory. John was also a proud grandfather to several grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Holly, who was a constant companion and brought immense joy to his life. John was preceded in death by his step-son, Ronald Mollett, step-daughter, Rhonda Mollett, and his brother, Phillip Tonkin. Despite these losses, John remained a pillar of strength and a source of inspiration to all who knew him.

Throughout his career, John worked as a dedicated supervisor, where he was respected for his leadership and commitment. Outside of work, John was an avid hunter and fisherman, passions that brought him closer to nature and provided countless memories with family and friends. In keeping with John's wishes, a private graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been provided by Crandell Funeral Home - Fremont Chapel.
