John F. Ungermann, age 67 of Hesperia, formerly of East Grand Rapids, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017 at his home following his declining health. John was born on August 5, 1949 in Detroit to Walter Frederick and Barbara (Ferland) Ungermann and spent his childhood in the Detroit area and later moved to East Grand Rapids where he graduated from East Grand Rapids High School. John joined the United States Air Force where he served during the Vietnam War, in country from 1969-1970 and in Thailand from 1970-1971. John returned to the Grand Rapids area after his honorable discharge and worked for Knape and Vogt for 37 ½ years in the receiving department from 1974 until his retirement in 2011. John had also worked as a ring man for Auction Connection Inc. in Fremont for many years until 2012 when he retired. John moved to the Hesperia area in 1993 from Rockford and enjoyed hunting, fishing, was a member of a prospecting group and enjoyed panning for gold, enjoyed cooking and was a member of the American Legion.

John is survived by his fiancé, Dierdre "Dee" Hamp of Hesperia; his son, Eric John Ungermann of Grand Rapids; his "brother", Mark and Linda Stevens of Commerce Township, Michigan; his canine companion, Molly; and many other special friends. John was preceded in death by his mother and father, Walter and Barbara Ungermann.

VISITATION : Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 6-7pm at Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel (7193 W. 48th Street Fremont MI) with FUNERAL SERVICES : Thursday at 7pm at the Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel with MILITARY HONORS conducted the by United States Air Force following the funeral services. INTERMENT : Friday, April 28, 2017 at 2pm at the Oak view Cemetery (1032 N Main Street Royal Oak MI 48067) MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Wounded Warriors Program.
