John O. Wells, age 83 of Fremont, passed away Monday, May 6, 2019 at the Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial Health Services in Fremont following a lingering illness. John was born on July 5, 1935 to John Elmer and Jennie (Snieder) Wells in Lincoln Township and graduated from White Cloud High School in 1953 and later served in the Michigan National Guard after graduation. John has been a lifelong resident of the Fremont area and met and married Mary Dunning on February 6, 1959 in Fremont. John had worked at Gerber Products Company for 45 years in the maintenance department until his retirement. John also started drilling water wells with his father at the age of 12 and started, owned and operated Wells Well Drilling in Fremont until the age of 65. John was a former member of the Second Christian Reformed Church in Fremont; enjoyed raising horses, cows and farming most of his life; enjoyed the Michigan outdoors – deer hunting and visiting Lake Michigan; and always had a large garden. John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary of Fremont; his children, grandchildren and great grandchild – Jim (Traci) Wells of Terre Haute, Indiana and their children, Alex (Caroline) Wells, Brent (Kim) Wells, Nick (Kristen) Wells and their son, Calvin; Nancy Wells of Mansfield, Ohio and her children, Daniel (Samantha) Fortune, Aaron Fortune, Quinton Heimlich; Ron (Stacey) Wells of Fremont and Stacey's sons, Logan Brooks and Drew Brooks; sister, Joyce (Larry) Patrick of Big Rapids; brother, Jay (Ruth) Wells of White Cloud; brothers -in-laws, Paul Keehl of Fremont; Paul (Vicky) Dunning; sisters-in-laws, Jan (Jim) Pell; Ruth Lucas; several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jennie Wells and his sister, Janet Keehl on November 27, 2018. Celebration of Life Services will be held in July 2019 in Fremont with interment in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Salvation Army or the Muskegon Rescue Mission for memorial contributions in memory of John.
