Joseph Charles Ensign, age 96, of Fremont, and formerly of Hesperia, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, March 17, 2012. Joe was born on October 18, 1915, and later married Elinor S. Sperandio on July 30, 1934, in Chicago. He had retired from Gerber Products Company, owned and operated Harmony Hill Resort on McClaren Lake for several years, and was a WWII veteran. Joseph also served as a deputy sheriff, patrol officer, and marine officer for 22 years in Oceana County. Joseph is survived by his family Karen (Joseph) Simons of Libertyville, Illinois, Rose Como of Chicago, Joseph (Mary) Ruggero of Skokie, Susan Porpora of Clinton Township, Michigan, Deborah Porpora of Chula Vista, California, Michael Simons of Chicago, Alexandra Levitz of Phoenix, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elinor in 2004, and dear friend Donna Karsten in 2012. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at 11AM at the Crandell Funeral Home in Fremont with Father Peter Omogo officiating.
