Joyce Catherine Abbatoy, age 78 of Fremont and Hesperia, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at the Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. Joyce was born on April 17, 1943 in Fremont to Lloyd and Cleora "Clip" (Wilcox) Hornbrook. Joyce graduated from Hesperia High School in 1961 and married Keith Wayne Abbatoy on November 3, 1962 in Hesperia. Joyce worked as a secretary for the Hesperia High School principal for several years and then started work in 1982 at Gerber Products Company in Fremont where she worked in the legal department and later worked in the corporate customer care division until her retirement in 2001. Joyce enjoyed attending rodeos, horse shows and barrel racing; was an avid Professional Bull Riders fan; enjoyed all type of crafts – knitting, crocheting, ceramics, painting and quilting; and traveling. Joyce spent her winters in Apache Junction, Arizona where she was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed making quilts for a women's shelter for many years. Joyce truly treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren though. Joyce is survived by her husband, Keith Wayne Abbatoy of Hesperia; her children, Julie (Vance) Sanders of Hesperia; Scott (Amy) Abbatoy of Rockford; her grandchildren, Dannielle (Derreck) McCombs; Kaitlyn Abbatoy and Samantha Abbatoy; her great grandchildren, Allison and Colson McCombs; her sister-in-law, Barb Hornbrook of Davison, Michigan; several nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Clip Hornbrook; by her brothers, Raymond Hornbrook; Leo "Red" Hornbrook; William Hornbrook; and Michael Hornbrook; her special cousin, Carole Coe VISITATION : Monday, October 11, 2021 from 6-8pm at Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel 7193 W 48th Street Fremont MI 49412 and Tuesday, October 11, 2021 from 11-12pm at the Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel.
