Smith, Judith K. Judith K. Smith, age 57 of Newaygo, passed away Monday evening, August 16, 2004 at the Metron of Big Rapids Nursing Center. She was born on May 26, 1947 in Fremont to Lamont W. and Mary W. (Edwards) Smith and graduated from Newaygo High School in 1965. She later graduated from Western Michigan University and had post graduate work through the University of Michigan, Grand Rapids Campus. Judy had been a elementary school teacher with the Algonac Public Schools for 26 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Newaygo United Methodist Church and had a special love for horses. She enjoyed teaching, tutoring, the arts, and was active in various church activities. She is survived by her mother, Mary W. Smith of Newaygo; her brother, John (Darlene) Smith of Newaygo; her niece Carmon (Jeff) Kolenbrander of Newaygo; her nephew, Bradley Smith of Newaygo; her aunt and uncle, Jack & Ruby Edwards of Newaygo; cousin, Bonnie Thomas; 2nd cousins, Jacki Nickel of Virginia; Jodi Bull of Newaygo; Keri Grimard of Newaygo; Erica Boyd of Newaygo; aunts and uncles, Verle Sanderson of Kalamazoo; Brad Smith of Ludington; Marilyn Smith of Portage; Mary Alice Glover of Manistee; Roger Smith of Shelby; Donna Schneider of Douglas, Michigan; her cousin, Mary Sue Marlow of Maryland; 2nd cousins, Michael John Zajic of Maryland; Goerge Marlow of Florida; Bobby Marlow of Maryland. She was preceded in death by her father, Lamont Smith on January 30, 1980 and her infant sister, Judy Ann Smith. Funeral memorial services were held on Friday, August 20, 2004 from the Newaygo United Methodist Church with Rev. Sandra Spahr of the Newaygo United Methodist Church presiding with interment in the Ferry Cemetery. Friends are asked to consider the Newaygo United Methodist Church for memorial contributions.
