Justus Jud Marion Balcom, age 78, of Detroit and formerly of Hesperia, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2009, at Detroit Receiving Hospital. Justus was born on March 19, 1930, in Muskegon, to Earl M. and Ruth Charlotte (Taylor) Balcom Sr. and was a baker for many bakeries in Muskegon, including Coles Bakery. Justus was proud to be an Army Veteran. Justus is survived by his children, Wyman (Candice) Balcom of Florida, Pamela Crawford of Muskegon, Kevin (Patti) Balcom of Casnovia, and Amy (Pete) Strait of Hart; 13 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Earl Balcom Jr. of Hesperia, OraDon (Fern) Balcom of Fremont, Art (Mary) Balcom of Fremont, William Robert (Sue) Balcom of Missouri, Vera Smith of Hesperia, Laura Balcom of Hesperia, and Alice VanHemert of Hesperia; and sister-in-law, Lucille Balcom of Hesperia. He was preceded in death by his son, David James Balcom, and brothers Gordon and Ray Balcom. Services were held at East Hesperia Cemetery on Friday, May 29, 2009, at 1 pm.
