Karen Louise Atwood, 79, of White Cloud passed away on April 1st with her family by her side. Karen married Gordon Atwood on February 8th, 1958. Karen had many jobs over her life's journey which included being a teacher's aide, waitress, Wilcox Township treasurer, bus driver, and clerk at Rosenberg's Hardware. She was awarded a GED diploma in 1974 and went to Muskegon Skilled Training Center in 1979 to obtain secretarial skills. In 1995 Karen went to Muskegon Community College to obtain a tax assessors license and later in life went to college at Ferris State receiving a certificate for training in OSHA. Karen is survived by her husband, Gordon; children, Kurt (Donna) Atwood, Annette Courtade, Gordy (Tanya) Atwood, and Lynne Gunneson; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Karen was preceded in death by her son, Rick Atwood, and sons-in-law, Greg Courtade and Justin Gunneson. Above all else, Karen was immensely proud of her children. She would say she could take all 5 of them to the grocery store and not one of them would act up. She would do almost anything for her kids. She was athletic in her younger years and wished they had more girls sports when she was growing up. She played softball and golfed, and enjoyed fishing trips to the cabin they owned in the U.P. She and Gordon loved to play cards and host parties with family and friends. She always looked forward to an annual trip to Petoskey with her girls for a long weekend at the KOA campground. She loved yard sales and auctions- going to them and having them! She and Gordon were supporters of Pheasants Forever for many years. A visitation to celebrate Karen's life will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Crandell Funeral Home in White Cloud. Graveside services will follow the visitation at Hillside Cemetery in Grant. The family would like donations in Karen's memory to be made to the American Diabetes Association.
