Karen (Larson) A. Reeves, age 79 of Fremont, formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away quietly on October 4, 2021 at the Green Acres Assisted Living Center in Fremont. Karen was born on December 10, 1941 in Benton Harbor to John and Mary (Dahlstrom) Larson and graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1960. Karen later received her Bachelors degree in teaching from Western Michigan University. Her teaching career began at Benton Harbor Public Schools and after a hiatus to start her family, she took a position at the Lake Michigan Catholic School in St. Joseph, Michigan where she taught for more than 30 years. Karen loved her students, leading the chess club, roller blade club, and the annual talent shows. In 2003, Karen retired from teaching and moved to be near her daughter's family as she would say, "what would I rather do with my retirement than be with my grandkids?!" Karen loved all types of sports – playing, watching and talking about every sport. She had a deep love for animals – especially her dogs. Cars were another source of entertainment for Karen and many will remember her cruising in her 1972 Cutlas Convertible. A BIG thank you to the staff at Newaygo Medical Care Facility and Green Acres for their thoughtful care of Karen over the past 2 years. Karen is survived by her daughter, Denise (Chris) Hudson of Fremont; her beloved grandchildren, Cole, Maya, Clay and Lena Hudson; her sisters, Beverly (Bill) Harman of Benton Harbor; Marybeth (Brian) Culverhouse of Benton Harbor; sister-in-law, Janet Larson of Stevensville. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Mary Larson and her brother, John Larson.
