Karen Gail Zick, a cherished resident of Fremont, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16th, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on Thursday, May 2nd, 1946, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, Karen lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to her community.
Karen was a devoted and inspiring educator, having earned a Bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University and a Master's in Parks and Recreation from Central Michigan University. She devoted many years to teaching high school home economics before retiring from the Fremont Public Schools in 1989. Her passion for education and empowering young minds left a lasting legacy in the hearts of her students.
Beyond her career, Karen was deeply committed to numerous community and personal pursuits. She was a Girl Scout Counselor and took pride in starting a Red Hat Chapter. An artist at heart, she loved painting, crafts, and cooking, imparting her creativity and zest for life to all who knew her. Her adventurous spirit was nurtured from a young age, having lived in Mexico during her childhood.
Karen is lovingly remembered by her special friends and caregivers, Deb Houghteling, of Fremont, MI, and Lucky Anderson. As well as many beloved nieces: Kris (Brad) Wright, Kim (Justin) Hopkins, Andrea (Rhett) Kunhen, and Erica (Tom) Wieczorek. She is survived by her brother, Russell Norman (Autumn) Zick, who also share in celebrating her rich and impactful life.
Karen was predeceased by her parents, Russell Norman Zick and Marion Inez Zick Hughes, and her sister, Randall Leslie Yeske (Rollie).
Visitation services will be held on Tuesday, August 26th, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the First Congregational Church in Fremont, MI, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am, officiated by Luke Schmalz. Arrangements have been lovingly entrusted to Crandell Funeral Home in Fremont.
Karen Gail Zick will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Her legacy of kindness, creativity, and dedication will continue to inspire and uplift the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her.
