Karin Jane VanderLaan, age 87 of Fremont, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2023 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. Karin was born on May 28, 1936 in Grandville, Michigan to William and Beulah Marie (Rupert) VanderLaan and graduated from Ravenna High School. Karin later attended and graduated from Hackley School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. Karin had worked at several nursing homes in the area, at correctional institutions and at Gerber Memorial Hospital until her retirement. Karin has been a resident of the Fremont area for the past 35 years and had enjoyed fishing in her younger years and was known for her beautiful painting abilities. Karin was a member of the Fremont Church of Christ. A special thank you to the staff of the Newaygo Medical Care Facility for the care they gave to Karin. Karin is survived by her children, Leona (Jeff) Carper of Crocker, Missouri; Robert (Sherry) Jackson Jr. of Muskegon; Carol Orban of Holland; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, Lee (Kay) Newell of Grant; Terry VanderLaan of Grand Rapids; Barbara Bielfuss of Grandville; Suzette VanderLaan; many nieces and nephews. Karin was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Willie and Bernie Evans. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Grandville Church of Christ 3725 44th Street SW Grandville MI 49418 with interment in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Newaygo Medical Care Facility Patient Fund for memorial contributions in memory of Karin.
