Kathleen K. "Kathy" Bushen, age 68 of Fremont, passed away peacefully at her home following her short battle with cancer. Kathy was born on February 18, 1954 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin to John and Helen (Holstein) Joling and later graduated from Calvin College and Blodgett School of Nursing. Kathy met and later married Ed Bushen in 1976 at the Reeman Christian Reformed Church in Fremont and have been residents of Fremont since. Kathy started her 45 year career as a Registered Nurse at Gerber Memorial Hospital and retired from Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial Health Services where she was a familiar and comforting face and voice on the surgical floor. Kathy was a member of the Reeman Christian Reformed Church in Fremont and enjoyed music and singing; was an avid reader of books and her Bible. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, boating and volunteering in various areas throughout the community for many years. Kathy is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ed of Fremont; her children, Bethany Bushen, Adam (fiancé, Emily Stack) Bushen, Jason Bushen; her grandson, Elias Matthew Bushen-Murphy; her sisters, Bev (Bob) Wolfsen; Brenda (Greg) Vogel; Sandy (Dave) Poll; several nieces and nephews. Kathy was greeted in heaven by her son, Matthew John Bushen who preceded her in death on October 2, 2009 and by her parents, John and Helen Joling.
