Kathryn Hansen, age 77, of Fremont passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Transitional Health Services in Fremont. She was born on May 24, 1936, in Oceana County (MI) to Teunis J. and Ila B. (Andrews) VanDyke and moved to the Fremont area as a young child. Kathryn graduated from Fremont High School with the class of 1954 and shortly thereafter, began a 30-year career with Gerber products Company in the Consumer Relations, Corporate Communications, and Public Relations Departments, retiring in 1992. After retirement, Kathryn devoted volunteer time to such organizations as Habitat for Humanity, United Way of Newaygo County, and the HOSTS mentoring program at Fremont Public Schools. In her free time, Kathryn was an avid reader with a love of history and people. She was also a proficient, dedicated quilter. But her greatest joy was time spent with her daughter, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kathryn is survived by her beloved daughter, Karen, and her husband Tim Hull of Fremont; her adored grandchildren, Teresa & Jeremy DePew of Eaton Rapids, Stephanie Fullmer & Jessie of Fremont, Rachel & Ben Deur of Grant, Anthony Hull of Los Alamos, New Mexico; and the special stars in her crown, great-grandchildren, Kaiden and Hailey Robbins, Drake Hartger, Erin DePew, Jalen Fullmer and Caleb Deur; her brother, William Bill VanDyke and his wife Lois of Fremont; and five surviving nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her husband, Richard Paul Hansen; her parents, Tony & Ila VanDyke; brothers, John and Robert VanDyke; and eight nephews and nieces. In keeping with Kathryns wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating Kathryns life will be held at 2 PM on Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Fremont Christian Church Disciples of Christ with Rev. David Dickinson officiating.
