Carnes, Keith R. Keith R. Carnes, age 66 of Fremont , passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 7, 2003 at the Gerber Memorial Health Services in Fremont . He was born on May 22, 1937 in Monroe Township , Newaygo County to George and Doris (Law) Carnes and married Nancy Bird on October 4, 1959 in Battle Creek . Keith has been employed at the SD Warren Paper Mill in Muskegon for 39 years until his retirement. He was a active member of the Grand River Chapter of Whitetails Unlimited, an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed bowling, bred and raised whitetail deer and elk on his farm, and owned and operated K & N Embroidery Design with his family for the past 11 years. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he served in the post Korean Era. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy of Fremont; his children, Kevin (Elvia) Carnes of Fremont; Karyn (John) Stroven of Fremont; Kayla (Mike) McGarvey of Fremont; 7 grandchildren, Brandon, Michael, Matthew, Nikole, David, Shelbie; step grand daughter, Krystle; 2 special friends, Darlene (Roger) Behler and family Brandon, Haley, & Seth of Newaygo; Dee Burkle of Fremont; his sisters, Mary Workman of Muskegon; Lois Blakeley of Big Rapids; Bonnie Robinson of Hersey, Michigan; his brother, Eugene (Fernanda) Carnes of Chase, Michigan; sister-in-law, Joyce Carnes of Otsego; Alice Baker of Newaygo; several nieces and nephews; his aunt, Rosanne Swan of Ada. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Forrest, George Jr.; sisters, Dorothy Cross, Ilah VanHassel; Ester VanDenBerg. Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 11, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. from the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel with Rev. Craig Adams, nephew to Keith presiding with military rites at the base of the flag pole at Crandell Funeral Home- Fremont Chapel under the auspices of the Newaygo V.F.W. Sportsmans Post #4249.
