Kenneth Edward Mansfield, age 93 of Walkerville, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. Kenneth was born on December 4, 1915 in Leavitt Township to Freeman E. and Nora (Hammond) Mansfield. Kenneth met and later married Mary E. (Jones) in July 13, 1937 in Bitely, Michigan. Mary preceded him in death on May 31, 1992. Ken served in the United States Army during World War II. Ken has been a lifelong resident of the area where he had worked at the Gerber Products Company, third shift cleaning department for many years until his retirement in 1979. Kenneth enjoyed hobby farming, vegetable and flower gardening and gospel hymn sings and watching gospel television shows. Ken was a member of the Walkerville Wesleyan Church. Kenneth is survived by his daughter, Evelyn Olson of Walkverville; his son, Jerry (Joann) Mansfield of Hesperia; foster son, John (Kathy) McGahan of Walkerville; his grandchildren, Mary Beth (Willie) Allen; Penny (Gary) Schrum; Paul Olson; Nora (Ray) Tracy; Barbara Olson; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; his brother-in-law, George Ripka of Grand Rapids; sister-in-laws, Wanda Jones, Isabell Jones and Eunice Jones; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his sisters, Lavange Ripka and Thelma Decker; his parents, Freeman and Nora. VISITATION : Monday, July 6, 2009 from 6-8pm at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Tuesday at 11am at the Walkerville Wesleyan Church in Walkerville.
