Rev. Kenneth D. Marzell, age 93 of Newaygo, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 following a lingering illness. Ken was born on October 13, 1918 in Savanna, Illinois to Frederick D. and Marie (Robel) Marzell and later married Cora Marie Beverwyk on July 1, 1938 in Hastings. Cora, his wife of 72 years, preceded Ken in death on June 20, 2010. Ken served as the minister of the Berlin Baptist Church in Marne from 1939 until 1948 and later taught the adult Bible class at the Berean Baptist Church in Grand Rapids for over 25 years. Ken also served as pulpit supply for over 50 churches throughout his ministry. Ken moved to the Newaygo area in 1954 where he had continued to minister and also owned and operated New-ay Food Mart in Newaygo for several years. Ken enjoyed being at Lake Michigan, watching the water and sun; reading and interacting with people throughout his entire lifetime. Ken is survived by his daughters, Patricia Chamberlain of Lexington, Kentucky; Yvonne Marzell of Fremont; special friend and caregiver, Jim Heim of Casnovia; grand daughters, Heather (nee Dykstra) (William) Sohl of Parkland, Florida; Anna (nee Dykstra) (Nick) Johnson of South Bend, Indiana; his great grandchildren, William L. Sohl IV; Logan B. Sohl; and Zoey M. Johnson. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Jane Rongo and his son-in-law, Robert Bob Chamberlain on Sept. 24, 2009.
