Knox C. Powers, age 92 of Fremont, passed away Thursday, October 06, 2011 at the Mercy General Health Partners in Muskegon. Knox was born on April 14, 1919 in Kalamo, Michigan to Zina Clare and Irene Delvin (Harrison) Powers and later married Nelda Bell Britton on April 5, 1941 in Fremont. Nelda preceded him in death on May 14, 2009. Knox had worked at the Northshore Tractor Sales in the sales and service department and sold the first 8N Ford in the State of Michigan. Knox had also been a dairy farmer until he sold his herd in 1980 and also was a dealer of anhydrous ammonia for several years. Knox had been a member of 4-H, Farm Bureau, Michigan Milk Producers Association. Knox started making maple syrup at the age of 9 and operated his own sugar shack until just recently. He also enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, listening to fiddle music and played the guitar and mouth harp. He had been a longtime attendee of the Dayton Center Wesleyan Church. Knox is survived by his sons, Douglas M. (Mindy) Powers of Fremont; John K. (Opal) Powers of Fremont; Joe (Roni) Powers of Fremont; his grandchildren, Mary Beth (Tom) Giddings; Britt Chapman; Matt (Liz) Powers; Mark Powers; Martha (Won Chae) Matthews; Brandi (Ben) Leach; Shawn Powers; Clare Ann Powers; Knox Powers; Walker Powers; his great grandchildren, Connor & Katelyn Giddings; Macey & Maxx Powers; Liam, Isobel, Ivey Matthews; Timothy & Riley Leach; Ellie Powers; Andrew Powers Kendziorski; his sisters, Muriel Akershoek of Fremont; Anita (Bill) Weise of Alabama; Clarys (William) Howell of Redlands, California; his brother, Mark (Dolores) Powers of Las Vegas, Nevada; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Ann Powers Fox on June 8, 2006; his brothers, Cecil Powers and Gene Powers. VISITATION : Sunday, October 9, 2011 from 4-7pm at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Monday, October 10, 2011 at 1pm at the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. INTERMENT : East Hesperia Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Dayton Center Wesleyan Church.
