Kory Burnett Shears, age 32 of Fremont, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 16, 2023 in Tampa, Florida. Kory was born on February 6, 1991 in Bridgeton Township to Gary and Pam (Vincent) Shears and has been a lifelong resident of the Fremont area. Kory married Jamie Kurek on May 5, 2014 in Newaygo and truly enjoyed spending time with his family. Kory had been a Mobile Hydraulic Technician and was currently working in the Tampa area. Kory loved his nieces and nephews, was a man of God and held his faith in great regard. He had an infectious laugh and was seldom seen without a smile on his face. He loved being in the Michigan woods – cutting wood and fishing and also enjoyed playing the drums. Kory is survived by his wife, Jamie of Kent City; his daughters, Ariah Jo Shears, Genesis Kurek, his son, Carter Jakob-Lee Smith; his mother and step father, Pamela (Malcolm) Bryant of Sanford, Michigan; his father, Gary Shears of Fremont; paternal grandmother, Jane Murray of Newaygo; his sisters, Kari Lynn (Jeff) Swanson of Grant; Kayla (Amador) Tovar of Fremont; his brother, Brent Shears of Cass, Michigan; several nieces and nephews. Kory was preceded in death by his son, Axel Shears and his brother-in-law, Deverin Simons.
