Lafe Waters, age 82 of Muskegon and formerly of Fremont, passed away Monday, July 23, 2001 at the Mercy Hospital in Muskegon. Lafe was born on March 22, 1919 in Fremont to James and Charlotte (Hindes) Waters and graduated from the Fremont High School. He later married Chlotilde "Coty" Swartz on February 15, 1947 in Grand Rapids. Both Lafe and Coty were charter members of the Farm Bureau and Fremont Grange. He farmed his entire life and was well respected in the community. He also loved flowers and planted many gardens. He is survived by his loving wife, Coty of Muskegon; sister-in-law, Nellie Waters of Fremont; brother-in-law, John Brock of Fremont; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by 5 sisters and 1 brother. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, July 26,2001 from the Crandell Funeral Home Chapel in Fremont with Rev. John Moser presiding with interment in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be given to the Newaygo County Cancer Society.
