Larry A. "LA" Johnson, age 68 of Fremont, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2021 at the Newaygo County Compassion Home following his battle with Leukemia. LA was born on February 20, 1953 in Fremont to Albert and Ellen (Moon) Johnson and graduated from Fremont High School in 1971. LA joined the United States Marine Corps shortly after graduation until his honorable discharge. LA returned back to Fremont and married Lori Curtice on September 30, 1977 in Fremont. LA had been a chemical engineer at Carajohn Chemical in Fremont and was Manager and built beautiful looms at Norwood Looms until his retirement in 2007. LA was a member of the Church of the Living Christ in Fremont where he had served as Deacon, and youth leader. His passion was coaching and playing basketball which he did at Fremont Public Schools for many years. He also served as a referee and umpire for high school sports. LA's favorite sporting event was the Indy 500 and loved Formula 1 Racing and he truly enjoyed listening to music and attending concerts. LA is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lori; his children and grandchildren – son, Eric (Melanie) Johnson of Fremont and their daughter – Lauren Hutchinson; son, Todd Johnson of Ferrysburg and his children, Bryce Cosens, Natalie Johnson, Isabelle Johnson; son, Justin (Jennifer) Johnson of North Muskegon and their children, Emma Johnson, Lukas Johnson; daughter, Elizabeth "Liz" (Ryan) Weber of Fremont and their daughters, Laila Weber and Elyse Weber; mother and father-in-law, Don and Joan Curtice of Fremont; his brothers, Gary (Chris) Johnson of Kalamazoo; Roger (Carolyn) Johnson of Grand Rapids, NE; sisters, Marcia Bush (Terry) of Stanton; Ramona (Charles) Benedict of South Haven; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Kirk) Reynolds of Bush, Louisiana; Valerie (Matt) Adams of Fremont; brother-in-law, Kurt (Lisa) Curtice of Fremont; several nieces and nephews. LA was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ellen Johnson and by his nephew, Chase Curtice.
