Obituary

It is with profound sadness and respect that we announce the passing of Major Larry L. Connell, United States Air Force (Ret.), on November 10, 2024. Major Connell dedicated his life to service, leaving behind a legacy of courage, commitment, and honor. Born on September 21, 1949, in Monmouth, Illinois, his most recent residence was in Spring Lake, Michigan.

Larry grew up in Monmouth and embarked on a distinguished career in the U.S. Air Force, where his dedication to his country and to those with whom he served defined his professional life. He also served as program manager for the Navy's Air Electronics Combat Surveillance Program – a role that exemplified his knowledge and expertise in advanced technology. Following his service, Larry embarked on a successful career in avionic business development, where he made a lasting impact on the industry and earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike.

Beyond his professional achievements, Larry had a passion for music, reading, and writing. He was an avid reader of philosophy and psychology, continuously exploring new ideas and deepening his understanding of the world. Friends and family will always remember his thoughtful conversations, kind smile, and generous spirit.

Larry was a devoted spouse, stepfather, grandfather, and uncle. He is survived by his beloved family: his spouse, Brenda; his siblings James (Vicky) Connell, Stephen (Amy) Connell, Linda (Jim) Lee, and Pamela (Peter) Gransee; stepchildren Holly (Jeff) Cantleberry, Heidi Dulaney (Luis Ramos), Haley (Bo) Webb, and Hunter (Jennifer) Dulaney; grandchildren Ayla, Archer, and Arlo Dulaney, Brennan Webb, Briar and Bode Cantleberry, Shaniera and Shan Luis Ramos Blanco, his stepmother Connie Connell, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Sue Connell, his father, Douglas Connell, and his brother, Dan Connell. Known for his compassion, integrity, and humor, Larry enriched the lives of all who knew him, and his presence will be profoundly missed. His kindness, strength, and dedication to others will remain a source of inspiration to those who carry on his memory.
