Obituary

Larry W. Geeting, age 88 of Fremont, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2009 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. Larry was born on May 26, 1921 in Fremont to Harry Otis and Leah (Hollowell) Geeting. Larry graduated from Fremont High School in 1939 and had been a state qualifier in track and field. After graduation, Larry joined the United States Navy where he served in the Seabees during World War II. Larry married Evelyn Canniff on August 10, 1945 in Fremont and she preceded him in death on March 9, 2009. During World War II, Larry started fixing watches and after his discharge, took several classed in Gemology and started Geeting Jewelry in 1945. Larry was a gifted designer of custom made jewelry and owned and operated his jewelry store until his retirement in 2002. Larry also enjoyed flying and building airplanes and built his own gyrocopter. Larry built the first airplane hanger at Fremont Airport. Larry was a life member of the Fremont V.F.W. Laurels Post; enjoyed fixing things and enjoyed traveling with his wife, Evelyn to Hawaii and Florida. Larry is survived by his brother, Harry Geeting Jr. of Fremont; sisters-in-laws, Mona Jean Bode; Marlene Canniff; Rosemary Geeting; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn and brothers, Paul Geeting and Robert Geeting. VISITATION : Saturday, October 10, 2009 from 5-8pm. FUNERAL SERVICES : Sunday, October 11, 2009 at 2pm at the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. INTERMENT : Maple Grove Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Fremont United Methodist Church Building Fund or Alzheimers Association for research.
