Leonard "Lenny" J. Smith, age 88 of White Cloud, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veteran's. Lenny was born on November 6, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to Charles S. and Anna C. (Danto) Smith and later moved to the White Cloud area in 1931. Lenny graduated from White Cloud High School in 1946 and soon joined the United States Navy where he served during the Korean War. Upon his return, Lenny married Dorothea "Dottie" Graves on May 19, 1950 in White Cloud and she preceded him in death on August 11, 2013. Lenny had started in the family business of moving houses at the age of 16, had owned and operated the Ford car dealership in White Cloud and later owned and operated Smith's Tavern from 1954 until 1982. Lenny was well known as a Master Welder and creator of welding projects. He was Life Member of the Newaygo V.F.W. and former member White Cloud Lions Club. Lenny had enjoyed traveling, motorcycling, music and dancing in his younger years and always enjoyed family gatherings. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Cloud.

Lenny is survived by his children, Michael (Sandra) Smith of Hastings; David R. Smith of Grand Rapids; Charles P. Smith of Pennsylvania; Jennifer K. Smith of Clinton Township; Thressa A. (Arthur) Hoekstra of Middleville; Steven M. (Vicki) Smith of Kentwood and Richard L. Smith of Grand Rapids; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Robert (Nancy) Smith of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; Roger (Jean) Smith of White Cloud and Sidney (Linda) Smith of Coldspring, Texas.

VISITATION : Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 4-7:30pm at Crandell Funeral Home – White Cloud Chapel. ROSARY and CHAPLET SERVICES : Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 7:30pm at the Crandell Funeral Home. MASS OF RESURECTION: Friday, October 27, 2017 at 11am at the St. Joseph Catholic Church 965 Newell White Cloud MI 49349. MILITARY RITES : Friday, October 27, 2017 at 12pm at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. INTERMENT : St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in White Cloud. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Smith Park Improvements, checks payable to Crandell Funeral Home.
