Leonard E. Plank, age 82 of Walkerville, formerly of Coopersville and Muskegon, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019 at his home following a short illness. Leonard was born on July 29, 1936 in Charlotte, Michigan to George E. and Bernice Viola (O'Neil) Plank and graduated from North Muskegon High School in 1954. Following graduation, Leonard married Elsie Bushee on August 17, 1957 in Muskegon. Leonard joined the United States Marine Corps in 1956 and served until his discharge as a Corporal in 1962. Leonard had worked as a police officer for the Muskegon Township Police Department until 1965 when he began work as a lineman at Consumers Power Company – Hoyt Street Complex until his retirement in 1998 after 32 years. After retirement, Leonard and Elsie moved to Walkerville where he enjoyed the Michigan outdoors, had been a farmer and always had a large garden, enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling throughout the United States and Canada and enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Leonard had also been a driver for the Newaygo County Commission on Aging for several years.
Leonard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elsie of Walkerville; his sons, Adam (Melinda) Plank of Coopersville; Alan Plank of Coopersville; his granddaughters, Margaret Plank and Catherine Plank.
Private family graveside services will be held in the summer of 2019 at the Newaygo Cemetery following Leonard's wishes for cremation. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Fremont Area Community Foundation for the Newaygo County Commission on Aging in White Cloud.
