Lera Jackson, age 93, received her heavenly promotion on February 23, 2020 surrounded by family at the Mercy Health Partners - Mercy Campus in Muskegon, MI. Lera was born on December 1, 1926 in Birdsong, Arkansas to Ed and Sylvia (Fleming) Johnson and later married James Jackson on September 2, 1973. Lera worked at Burny Brothers Bakery (Beatrice Foods) in Chicago, IL as well as Wolverine Worldwide in Big Rapids, MI and at Woods and Waters Resorts and White Cloud Products in White Cloud, MI. A happy soul she was, Lera enjoyed life and the friends and family that she shared it with. She often flashed her big smile and captured the laughs of others with her quick wit, captivating storytelling, and amazing sense of humor. Lera had a passion for helping others, she opened her heart and home to 20+ foster and family children throughout the 1980's and 1990's, including Karl Williams, Steve Thomas, Jeremy Webb, Darwin Buford, and a host of others. Her passion also led her to open a food pantry from her home to feed those in need and she continued this endeavor with the outreach ministry of her church, the White Cloud Church of God in Christ, where she was an active member for over 48 years. She is remembered as a fun and creative Sunday school teacher, choir president, leader of the nurse's guild and usher board, as well as a dedicated prayer warrior. Lera was preceded in death by her treasured parents, Ed and Sylvia Johnson and beloved siblings: Charlene Fleming, Allen Hall, Tyree-Hall Shelmon, Joe Nathan Johnson, and David Johnson. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, James Jackson of White Cloud, MI; her cherished son, Christopher B.
