LeRoy Joseph
Girard II
Jun 21, 1934 — Aug 1, 2026
Newaygo
LeRoy Joseph Girard II, also affectionately known as “Rick,” passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, at the age of 92, after living a full and well-loved life.
LeRoy was born on June 21, 1934, in Muskegon, Michigan, to LeRoy Girard I and Iris Peters. A lifelong resident of western Michigan, he settled in Fremont in the late 1950s, where he and his family made their home for many decades. He later moved to The Brook of Newaygo, where he resided for the last couple of years. LeRoy spent most of his working career at Brunswick Corporation in Muskegon.
LeRoy was a dedicated husband to his wife, Therese, with whom he shared 69 years of marriage. Together they raised three children: LeRoy Girard III, Beverly Girard, and Renée (Jeff) Linnemeyer. He was a proud grandfather to Cade and Avery Linnemeyer, Joseph (DeRae) Matuszek, Michelle (Ben) Pritchard, and Brittny Girard (Dylan Graber).
He was preceded in death by his son, LeRoy Girard III; his mother and stepfather, Iris and James Wood; and his siblings, Larry Girard, Ronald McCollum, Linda Christensen, and Terry Wood.
LeRoy will be remembered as a fun-loving, social, and well-liked man with a wonderful sense of humor and a genuine love for people. He especially enjoyed the outdoors, with hunting and fishing among his favorite pastimes.
LeRoy was also a lifelong tinkerer. He loved to fix, build, modify, and improve just about anything he could get his hands on. He was crafty and creative, drawing from his Chippewa heritage to carve arrowheads, bows, arrows, and walking sticks.
Above all, LeRoy was a devoted family man. His humor, determination, creativity, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Per LeRoy’s wishes, there will be no funeral services.
