Obituary

Duke, Les Les Duke, age 82 of White Cloud, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at the Transitional Health Services in Fremont. Les was born on August 17, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois to John R. and Helen M. (Watkins) Duke and later married Maxine Goodman on July 9, 1948 in Kankakee, Illinois. Maxine preceded him in death on December 25, 1996. Les had served in the United States Army during World War II and retired from the armed forces and later moved to the White Cloud area where he owned and operated TOPS Restaurant in White Cloud for several years. He was employed at Rosenberg Hardware for many years and also supervised meals on wheels for several years in Merrill Township. Les enjoyed wood working.. He is survived by his daughter, Helen (Edward) Taube of Fremont; sons, Michael Duke of Arizona; Martin Duke of Arizona; his grandchildren, Janicia (Todd) Koopmans; Tara (Leye) Adegbite; Heidi (Eric) Bennett; Michael Duke; Jeremy Duke; Domminque Duke; Eric Duke; Travis Duke; Levon Duke; Kenneth Duke; his companion, Ann Bolan of White Cloud; nieces and nephews, Ruth Jones; Barbara Lynch; Leslie (Nina) Duke; Reginald Duke; Francis Duke; John Paul Duke all of Colorado; Rolfe Duke of Georgia. He was preceded in death by his sister, Juanita Irene White on May 5, 2004 and by his son, Mark Duke on May 28, 2002. Funeral memorial services were held on Friday November 24, 2006 at the Crandell Funeral Home-White Cloud Chapel with Rev. Foster Brummel presiding with interment in the Merrill Township Cemetery. I thought maybe Leo and Maxine might have had something to do with us being in the car. My Dad, Ken And Les are probably in heaven retelling each other stories about the big war.
