Lester D McClure, age 94 of Brohman, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at his home following a gradual decline in his health. Les was born on February 5, 1928 in Rome Township, Lenawee County, Michigan to William Jennings and Elizabeth Ilo (Cattel) McClure. Les joined the United States Navy at 17 years of age and was on a ship headed for the invasion of Japan when the "A" Bomb was dropped and then his ship detoured to the Philippine's where they were assigned to the Bikini Atoll where further "A" bomb testing was being conducted. Les returned to the area and met and later married Janalee Schaefer on April 7, 1956 in Muskegon. Les and Janalee moved to the Lansing area where Les had been a car hauler, driving the "portable parking lots" for 33 years until his retirement from the Teamsters Union at the age of 57. They then moved north to the Brohman area where they would spend the rest of their lives together. Les was a Life Member of VFW, Past President of the VFW Post 995 in Bitely; had been active in the White Cloud Lions Club where he was a Past President. He enjoyed traveling to Rice Lake, Ontario, Canada on fishing vacations with his family and the yearly trips were a highlight every year for Les. Les was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Baldwin. Les is survived by his wife of 66 years, Janalee of Brohman; his children, Audrey Elizabeth (Ray) Williams Jr. of White Cloud; Kenneth Lester (Barb) McClure of Ovid, Michigan; daughter-in-law, Lisa McClure of Florida; 8 grandchildren, Angela, Ben, Ray Ray, Belinda, Alexandra, Jami, Karen, and Rebecca; 11 great grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Thomas William (Mary Ann) Schaefer of Muskegon. Les was preceded in death by his sons, Ronald William McClure and Steven Alfred McClure; his grandson, Steven Thomas McClure.
