Lois E. Chapin, age 87 of White Cloud, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility with her family at her side. Lois was born on October 4, 1929 in Fremont to Clarence and Pearl (Schrole) Berndt. Lois married Harold Fowler and they later divorced and then married Leland "Lee" Chapin and he preceded her in death on August 4, 2012. Lois has been a lifelong resident of the White Cloud area where she had been a farmer most of her life and had worked at White Cloud Products where she had been an inspector until her retirement. Lois enjoyed flower gardening, watching and feeding the birds, had been a 4H Leader in her younger years, enjoyed fishing and hunting throughout her lifetime, but especially treasured the time she spent with her family. Lois is survived by her children, Alice (Ivan) Carson of Hesperia; Linda (Bill) Holmes of Fremont; Marge Smith of South Lyon; Lori (Mike) Stencel of Tennessee; Ronald (Wendy) Fowler of White Cloud; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson; her sister, Bonnie Schoonveld of Muskegon; sisters-in-laws, Judy Berndt of Muskegon; Darlene Berndt of Muskegon; Pat Berndt of Muskegon; several nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Dale Cruzan; her son-in-law, Denny Smith; her sister, Doris Stevens; her brothers, Doug Berndt; Ronald "James" Berndt; Vernon Berndt; her mother, Pearl Matthews and her father, Clarence Berndt. Private graveside services will be held in the spring of 2017 at the Woodville Cemetery (6206 N Pine Ave, White Cloud, MI 49349) following Lois' wishes for cremation.
