Reber, Lois A. (Smith) Kempf Lois A. (Smith) Kempf Reber, age 101 of Grand Rapids, formerly of Fremont, passed away Thursday at the Heather Hills Care Center in Grand Rapids. Lois was born on April 24, 1904 in Alma, Michigan to Wallace David and Bonita Agatha (Greig) Smith and later moved to the Fremont area. She married E. Clare Kempf in 1926 in Kalamazoo and Clare preceded her in death in 1951. She later married Harry D. Reber Sr. in 1963 in Fremont and he preceded her in death in 1990. Lois had been a longtime resident of Fremont where she was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fremont and had been president of the Womans Club and choir director for many years. She received her teaching certificate from Western Michigan College and taught music and art at Fremont High School until her marriage. She is survived by her children, Emiel (Orpha) Kempf of Rockford; William (Sharon) Kempf of Waukesha, Wisconsin; Joan (William) Hubbard of Lakewood, Washington; her stepchildren, Nancy (Ted) Johnson; Marjorie Salata of Fremont; Harry D. (Mary) Reber Jr. of Lansing; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lell Handley. Memorial services were held on Saturday, June 24, 2006. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fremont with Rev. Ray Dekker presiding Graveside services were held on Monday, April 24, 2006 at the Maple Grove Cemetery. Funeral Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 11am from the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fremont.
